My Experience with GLP-1 Medications for Weight Loss

It was just over a year ago when I decided I would benefit in my weight loss and wellness efforts by starting on one of the new GLP-1 medications. I enrolled in an online service offering compounded medications as the price on GLP-1s was a bit high for my tastes and often times availability was a problem from what I had been reading. I began my journey on compounded tirzepatide. It took effect immediately and I began on my journey losing 50 plus pounds on the medication. I had minimal side effects at first but as time rolled on, I began experiencing fatigue and bloating. Finally, after just not feeling well and being tired all of the time I decided to wean off the medication. Cost was an issue too at around $400 per month. I felt good again after getting off the medication and my weight was stable, but I just couldn’t get off that last 20 pounds.

Fast forward to a few months ago when my insurance began covering Wegovy with a $23 co-pay. Again, I went online and subscribed. After about 2 months of a $23 co-pay for Wegovy I ordered a script refill and low and behold my co-pay jumped to over $700 a month! So, that was a no go. And I had not had a significant weight lost either. I again flipped to a compounded version of the drug but this time it was compounded semaglutide. It was several weeks before I felt any effects at all and although I have not gained weight, I have not lost weight either. My dose was increased 2 weeks ago and the fatigue is setting in along with the same bloating issues as before.

My thoughts are that although the GLP-1 drugs helped my lose about 50# and keep it off I think I may have hit a wall as far as GLP-1s are concerned for weight loss. I’m again stuck in a spot where I am feeling the fatigue and side effects without the weight loss. I’m now missing the exercise component once again related to fatigue and just not feeling like myself.

My next dose of compounded semiglutide is in 2 days and I am really considering tapering off the medication and just doing the diet and exercise component. Of course, the company has got me with a subscription for now but I’ll still use their services. Just in a different way.

Maybe, just maybe, I should go back and read my old posts. I want to get back from here to there. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Driving Your Mindset to Attain Your Goals

I woke up to another beautiful morning! I am starting to feel those wisps of autumn in the air and the daylight hours are noticeably shorter now. I have a good week laid out in front of me and plan to savor each day.

It seems I just can’t stress enough the importance of keeping one’s head in a good place these days. It turns out, I do have quite a bit of control over my mind set. For me it means replacing every negative though with a positive thought or taking that extra second to take note of something beautiful–even something small. I give away more smiles to people passing by It literally turns my day around. I am better now at walking away from negativity and drama than I was before. It is essential for me to do that if I want to hold on to a mindset that permits me to reach and maintain my goals.

This week I will empower myself by writing down my weekly goal with a reward at the end of the week when I achieve it. I will commit to removing myself from drama and toxic conversations. I will be mindful of what I am eating and drinking. I will challenge my body just a little bit more.

I challenge you to go after what you want this week. Tend to your mindset like you would a garden. Pull the weeds trying to take it over, feed and water it. Make sure the sun can shine on it.
